Meet our staff — the people who help serve and support the ministry of the Norway House Bible Church.

Pastor Ed and Karen Lytle

Ed and Karen Lytle have served in northern ministry with Northern Canada Evangelical Mission (NCEM) since 1982. Ed grew up in Akron, Ohio, and as a shy teen he got involved in football and track, joined a youth group, and worked summers at Bible camp. While at Liberty Baptist College, an injury changed his plans and led him into a student music/evangelism team that traveled and assisted missionaries, including overseas trips during school breaks.

Karen was raised mostly in Virginia, came to faith early in a Christian home, and during her college years experienced deeper spiritual growth that shaped her desire for missions, including a short-term overseas experience. Ed and Karen met at college and were married in March 1981, and by the end of June they were on their way to northern Ontario—to Weagamow, an Oji-Cree community—where they were welcomed into the home of Pastor Albert and Rhoda Tait, who taught them about life and ministry in the north. While in Weagamow, they were also introduced to the Northern Canada Evangelical Mission organization and Tribal Trails ministry; then, after applying and being accepted, in September 1982 they began serving at Key-Way-Tin Bible Institute in Alberta with their newborn son.

About a year and a half later they moved to Norway House, Manitoba. In 1989, a fire destroyed their home and belongings, and they experienced tangible care and support from the Norway House community, along with practical help as they rebuilt. Ed and Karen have continued serving with Norway House Bible Church under Northern Canada Evangelical Mission (NCEM), where they raised their four children and have sought to help people learn about Jesus Christ.

Dan Mowatt

Dan Mowatt has been part of Norway House Bible Church since the church began and continues to serve faithfully. He serves as a deacon, helping with Communion and offerings, caring for the building, and stepping in wherever help is needed, including helping lead services when the pastor is out of town. When Ed and Karen arrived in 1983, Dan and his mother were among the first to welcome them, including bringing bannock when they first came. Originally from Warren’s Landing, Dan moved to Norway House during high school and has lived in the community most of his life, working in a variety of roles including commercial fishing and semi-truck driving. He currently helps care for his mother and is thankful for the church family and the opportunity to serve.

Heather Paul

Heather Paul is a music teacher who has served in the community since 1998. At the Norway House Bible Church, she coordinates congregational singing, helps our church family worship together each week, and helps lead services when the pastor is away. Before coming to Norway House, Heather taught in Garden Hill for five years and remains grateful for the friendships and fellowship she experienced there. After moving to Norway House, she connected with the church through AWANA and is thankful for the warm welcome and support of the church family and wider community.

Larry Duncan

Larry Duncan has been part of Norway House Bible Church for over a decade and serves as a prayer leader within the church family. He serves as an elder and often encourages the church family to choose one person after the service and pray for them throughout the week, helping prayer continue beyond Sunday. Larry is from Norway House and first connected with the church through an invitation from his brother. He helps lead services when the pastor is away and is thankful for the support and fellowship of the church family as he serves in his work on water systems in many communities.
