Statement of Faith
We’re glad you’re here. The points below are a brief summary only of what we believe at Norway House Bible Church. We are an evangelical church affiliated with the Native Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (NEFC) and hold to its Statement of Faith. This summary does not replace the full NEFC Statement of Faith, which is the complete and authoritative statement. You can read it using the link at the bottom of this page.
The Bible: We believe the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, wholly without error as originally given, and the sole and final authority for Christian faith, doctrine, and life.
The Triune God: We believe in one sovereign and eternal God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three co-equal and co-eternal Persons who share one divine being and all the perfections of God.
Jesus Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man: the eternal Son of God, born of a virgin, who lived without sin, died as the sacrifice and substitute for sinners, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and now intercedes for believers. He is King of kings, Head of the Church, and Lord of all.
The Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit is fully God and personal. He convicts the world of sin, gives new life to believers, and indwells, baptizes, seals, fills, empowers, guides, teaches, and sanctifies God’s people.
Creation and the Fall: We believe that God directly created humanity in His image. Through disobedience, humanity fell into sin, stands under God’s condemnation, and cannot save itself from sin and its consequences.
Salvation: We believe that salvation is God’s free gift, received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone—not earned or secured by any human work. All who receive Christ are born again by the Holy Spirit and become children of God.
Christian Life: We believe that Christians are called to live in obedience to Christ, distinct from the patterns of the world. Through Scripture and the indwelling Holy Spirit, God progressively forms believers in purity and holiness.
The Church and the Ordinances: We believe that Christ’s Church is made up of all who have been justified by faith, born again, and baptized by the Holy Spirit into one body. Believers gather in local churches for worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching, mission, and the observance of Christ’s ordinances: believers’ baptism by water immersion and the Lord’s Supper. These ordinances do not save but express faith, identification, and fellowship with Christ. Every Christian and local church is called to bear witness to the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.
Satan: We believe that Satan is a real personal being who rebelled against God, leads evil spiritual powers, deceives the world, and opposes God’s people. His power is limited by God; he was defeated at the cross and will finally be cast into the lake of fire.
The Return of Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ will return personally, visibly, and gloriously. The time of His return is unrevealed, and believers are called to watch and pray. At His appearing, He will receive His Church to Himself and reign in righteousness.
Resurrection and Judgment: We believe in the bodily resurrection of all people and in God’s final judgment. Those who are saved will live forever in the blessed presence of Jesus Christ; those who remain unsaved will face everlasting conscious judgment.
